I had been thinking about things for a while. The problem is, the stand is mounted to the box. Instead... mount a platform to the frame...
The platform uses all of the old mounting points. (The four to the frame, and the ones for the stand, and the stand's clasp). I just used the existing box as a template to mark the drill points for the new platform. Easy! (ish).
To mount the box to the platform, I just drilled four new holes clear of the rest of the mounting hardware.
The drain holes in the corners of the cargo box are lined up with drain holes through the platform.
It will all be painted... eventually...
(and, eventually, it was painted!)
