Business opportunity
We'd be interested to talk to anybody who might be interested in taking over the Cargo Cycles business. With more than 60 bikes sold, we're arguably the biggest name in cargo bikes in Australia, with an established brand, website, contacts and customer base.
The bikes on the road, and their happy riders, are the best possible advertisement.
We can assist you in ordering a shipment of bikes, and starting over where we left off.
FAQ: Why are we closing down?!
Cargo Cycles is a hobby, born of my want for a cargo bike of my own. In 2007, I couldn't buy a cargo bike locally. I found a supplier who quoted a price per container; nobody else was doing it, so we bit the bullet and went into business.
I said I'd keep doing it while it was fun. Getting set up, putting the word out, and working out how to do everything was exciting. But I have a short attention span, and love things that change. About halfway through the second container load, two years after I became obsessed with cargo bikes, it started to become a bit of a chore - more like a second job. Not a bad job to have, as far as jobs go, but with a full-time career and young family (with our own issues as described on our "about us" page), I don't want a second job.
When the time came to order a third shipment, it didn't seem nearly as exciting as the first two. So we decided not to.
It's been fun, and I'm proud of what Cargo Cycles has become. We've launched a market segment of amazingly useful bikes that didn't exist 3 years ago, and we've learnt a bit about how to run a business. We helped more than 60 people become less car-dependent (or gave them a new recreation, or whatever motivated each customer to buy a cargo bike). It's the first hobby I've ever had that has turned a profit rather than costing money.
But right now I'd rather play with my kids, ride my bikes, and have the "warehouse" end of my shed back.
Thanks for your interest, and happy cargo cycling.
